Eel came to Ise in the Tenpo era, more than a hundred and eighty years ago. Kitaya has carried that tradition on since its own founding in 1910.

At the foot of the shrine
Kitaya was born in Honmachi, Ise, in 1910. At that time the streets before the Outer Shrine were thick with people coming and going.
We have carried the taste and the intent of Ise's eel — the Filial Eel — to those who come to the shrine, and go on doing so.
The birthplace of Yukio Nishimura
This building is where the late Yukio Nishimura was born. He joined the Osaka Tigers — now the Hanshin Tigers — in 1937, and though his career there lasted only three years, he pitched as their ace.
In 1937 and again in 1938 he beat the Giants of Eiji Sawamura in the championship, carrying his club to back-to-back titles. A heavy fastball, a sharp shoot and a curve, all placed with unusual control.
He was killed at Batangas in the Philippines on 3 April 1945. In 1977 a statue was raised through the efforts of those who remembered him, and in the same year he entered the Baseball Hall of Fame.
